DUNBAR’S JACK AND IVY IN NEW YORK
Way back in 1985 two young men met through their love of hairdressing. With their career ahead of them, Nick Orrojo and Graeme Hamilton met at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Manchester.
Nick, a top stylist and educator stayed with Sassoon for ten years then moved to USA and became hugely successful with 3 salons and 150 staff. Meanwhile, Graeme ran his own salon in Falkirk and last year opened his new salon, JACKANDIVY in Dunbar. Quickly earning a reputation and becoming a finalist in the East and Mid Lothian Business Awards for ‘Best New Business’ of 2018.
During his time in Dunbar, Graeme was using online training in his salon when he discovered Nick doing an online seminar on razor cutting and was so inspired decided that he and his wife Jackie should fly over for hands on education.
So in May this year they set off and after seeing all the sights they spent a few days at the Nick Orrojo Academy and was delighted to meet up again with Nick. Throughout Graeme’s full career his priority has been training and education and this is still true today. That is what led him to New York to embrace the razor cutting techniques.
What did Graeme think about his experience?
“Our hairdressing industry is changing all the time. Using a razor in a technical way can give any length of hair a softer look that I feel many clients want at the moment. We now offer the client a hair cut using the scissors or razor or even a combination of both. I look forward to giving clients this option and feel really excited about the future of Jack and Ivy in Dunbar”
